As I put on this cobalt dress early this morning, I reflected on the demise of the “day” or “work” dress. I imagine that there are many working women out there – especially in Manhattan or Chicago – wearing fabulous work dresses, but I’m not at all sure that is true anymore. I mean there ARE work dresses, but fabulous? I’m not so sure. I know that I have a few dresses – suitable for weddings – and then one or two dresses I wear to work. But the fashion world for most of us is about separates, isn’t it? Granted, Kate’s generation can wear little inexpensive cotton blend dresses from H&M, but I’m not at all sure that is relevant for us. In addition, dresses like the one I have on today are one dimensional. How many different ways can I possibly wear it?
