As a style team, we go way back to the point where Kate was a baby and Jeanne dressed her in THE cutest baby clothes. Fashion and style had always been an important part of Jeanne’s persona (before Kate was born, she in fact made many of her own clothes). It was only natural, as the years went by, that Kate became interested in fashion and style herself. We loved to shop together but, interestingly, our styles developed to be somewhat different. Jeanne always strove to be the height of fashion, while Kate trended towards “preppy”.
Kate is now an adult and we live 2,500 miles apart, but we are constantly emailing and texting to consult on new purchases and our respective outfits. Our joint shopping trips are rituals that happen only five or six times a year when we’re together. But we both continue to evolve as “fashionistas” and we continue to influence each other’s style. Dedicated to all stylish mothers and daughters out there, this blog is our story – a “pas de deux” of style that covers topics for those in their 20s to those in the “older glamazon” demographic.
I am in my late 20s and live in the Washington DC area. I work in nonprofit marketing, and am just re-entering the full-time workforce after finishing graduate school in May. I am happy to be actually getting dressed again, and to have the opportunity to play around with fashion once again. My frugal ways have definitely carried over from being a student, so I am always looking to balance between getting a deal and buying high quality items.
My style is constantly evolving, but tends toward preppy and colorful. Preppy in the sense that I usually stick to classic shapes and cuts, mixing in color, pattern, and some trendy pieces. My mom is a good motivator to try things outside my comfort zone, and I attribute my increasing courage in that regard to her.
I have always been a clothes horse. I stay in top of what is in style and modify it to suit my lifestyle and my body. In recent years, I’ve had to make the adjustment to wearing clothes and accessories appropriate for my age. Ugh. But it is a new challenge and one I gladly take on! What a joy it was to give birth to Kate (after the most stylish pregnancy ever!) who, fingers crossed, could enjoy fashion and style as much as I did. And, years later, she does! But her style is somewhat different from mine and informed by factors such as age and budget. And that is what this blog is all about!
I am nearing the end of a long career and I am wondering what lies ahead – fashionwise – once I am no longer dressing for my work-a-day job. That will be a new adventure that I hope you’ll want to share with me.
Other details: I live in Seattle, I’m married (although I’ve spent many years single between marriages), and I shop almost exclusively online – except when Kate and I are together. I am always looking for a bargain, but I know my labels and I shop them.
