About Us

As a style team, we go way back to the point where Kate was a baby and Jeanne dressed her in THE cutest baby clothes. Fashion and style had always been an important part of Jeanne’s persona (before Kate was born, she in fact made many of her own clothes). It was only natural, as the years went by, that Kate became interested in fashion and style herself. We loved to shop together but, interestingly, our styles developed to be somewhat different. Jeanne always strove to be the height of fashion, while Kate trended towards “preppy”.

Kate is now an adult and we live 2,500 miles apart, but we are constantly emailing and texting to consult on new purchases and our respective outfits. Our joint shopping trips are rituals that happen only five or six times a year when we’re together. But we both continue to evolve as “fashionistas” and we continue to influence each other’s style. Dedicated to all stylish mothers and daughters out there, this blog is our story – a “pas de deux” of style that covers topics for those in their 20s to those in the “older glamazon” demographic.

Meet Kate:

I am in my late 20s and live in the Washington DC area. I work in nonprofit marketing, and am just re-entering the full-time workforce after finishing graduate school in May. I am happy to be actually getting dressed again, and to have the opportunity to play around with fashion once again. My frugal ways have definitely carried over from being a student, so I am always looking to balance between getting a deal and buying high quality items.

My style is constantly evolving, but tends toward preppy and colorful. Preppy in the sense that I usually stick to classic shapes and cuts, mixing in color, pattern, and some trendy pieces. My mom is a good motivator to try things outside my comfort zone, and I attribute my increasing courage in that regard to her.

Meet Jeanne:

I have always been a clothes horse. I stay in top of what is in style and modify it to suit my lifestyle and my body. In recent years, I’ve had to make the adjustment to wearing clothes and accessories appropriate for my age. Ugh. But it is a new challenge and one I gladly take on! What a joy it was to give birth to Kate (after the most stylish pregnancy ever!) who, fingers crossed, could enjoy fashion and style as much as I did. And, years later, she does! But her style is somewhat different from mine and informed by factors such as age and budget. And that is what this blog is all about!

I am nearing the end of a long career and I am wondering what lies ahead – fashionwise – once I am no longer dressing for my work-a-day job. That will be a new adventure that I hope you’ll want to share with me.

Other details: I live in Seattle, I’m married (although I’ve spent many years single between marriages), and I shop almost exclusively online – except when Kate and I are together. I am always looking for a bargain, but I know my labels and I shop them.

Girls! You are so adorable! Was such a pleasure to see mom and daughter together in one blog!
I also have wonderful memories of my childhood when my grandmother and my mom were making clothes for me. Simply because there was nothing to look for in Russia in late 80-s and the beginning of 90-s. Thanks to them I was always dressed perfectly, situation appropriate and as no other girl in my class. And, hopefully, I continue the same way -)
So keep doing what you are doing. I think your blog is a great source of style tips for women of different ages. Will gladly follow you!
    Katia.

I love the mom+daughter perspective on your blog! It reminds me of my mom and I and how much we love shopping and raiding each other’s closets. Good luck!

You and your Mom are adorable! I’m slightly jealous because my Mom doesn’t like shopping. At. All. I’ll just live vicariously through the both of you! xoxo

Hi Jeane, I’ve only recently discoverd your blog. Like you, I have to dress up for work every day and I love the daily challenge. I run an art gallery so also get to do dressing up for our exhibition nights and that’s great fun. What do you do? I love your blog and am gradually working through your archives.

Anna – Thanks again for your interest in my blog. I have always been interested in fashion. I am descended from a family of fashionable sewers – my mother and my French grandmother (You’ll be pleased to know I also have Scottish blood – the Bruce clan!) Perhaps my interest started with my efforts to make career-worthy clothes and decent looking maternity clothes back in the day. I work in the fundraising business and currently raise funds for a high school. I spent many years as a fundraising consultant and working for other educational non profits. But it wouldn’t matter where I worked or what business I was in, I would still put energy into my wardrobe and looking chic. In the last ten years, this has become all about buying online and finding great deals. I don’t think I’ve REALLY shopped in the a store for a very long time. It is fun to meet other bloggers like you. Stay in touch, Jeanne

I’m a blogger too although it’s less about “what I wore” than all (other) things fashion. But I saw your blog, love your style and how you write… Happy to meet you!

Michelle – I love your blog and your writing style. I do “what I wore” because that is about what I have the time for right now. But I’d love to be more creative and reflective about fashion and culture – as you are! Jeanne

Marian – I saw your post on Guru Gossip. Thanks for the compliment and I hope you’ll keep following us. At present, daughter Kate is more behind the scenes – busy professional life and expecting her first child – while I’m more out front. I imagine we’ll make another shift once the new baby has arrived but, regardless, I’ll keep posting outfits. Jeanne
