Some days I wonder where the color in my wardrobe has gone. I can’t help that I love classic black mixed with everything, as well as navy and shades of olive. But it is uplifting to dress in red and white as you see here. There is nothing, in my opinion, better than a true, clear red and these pants qualify. They will be keepers in my summer retirement wardrobe!
There is a story behind this Tibi sweater. First of all, it was definitely a higher price point than I would usually buy. Then I had to return it once to get the correct size. When I wore it the first time, I was still not pleased with the fit, but OMG what a great graphic, right? Hot pink Eiffel Tower all the way! So I took it to my tailor and had her put darts in the back to make it more fitted. Now I love it.
Today’s lesson: If you truly love something, don’t let it go because of a moderately poor fit! Instead go to the tailor and have it fitted to your body!

Ah, my tried and true black and gray combination again! This is another great outfit for cooler spring days – light wool vest in the morning, just the blouse in the afternoon. I have had this Forever 21 blouse for years and it has never gone out of style and brightens up anything I pair it with – a true clothes war horse! It is the perfect example of “low” fashion working successfully with “high” fashion. How many of those do you have in your closet?
I love to wear pink and red together, folks. Maybe it’s the shock value or maybe it is just that these are two of my favorite colors. And adding one of my vintage brooches was a no-brainer. My red shoes so perfectly match my pants (and you know how much I like matchy matchy).
By the way, everyone should have a perfect pair of red heels just as everyone should have animal print heels. They brighten up any outfit. I love many of the Sole Society shoes because they are on trend but of a reasonable height. Beautiful shoes at a good price that one can walk in – what a concept!
So many favorites are combined here: plaid! joggers! burgundy! chandelier earrings! hi-low sweater! duster!
I am very fearful that joggers will fade from the scene except as activewear – then what will I do? This duster coat is a story unto itself because it goes with practically everything and is perfect for the California climes. But if I lived in a colder climate, I know I would still wear it as an indoor jacket – it definitely suits my yen for tasteful drama.
When I wore this outfit, I LONGED to be on the east coast where a cashmere sweater coat would be useful. But, alas, I was out to dinner in San Francisco and I probably needed one less layer of clothing. I’m stubborn that way – I get an ensemble in my mind and then I am determined to wear it.
You already know how very much I love olive and this was an olive trifecta – coat, tunic top and scarf. I love a bundled up look like this because I could almost look like I belonged amid the throngs at NYFW – overdressed and deliriously happy! BTW, orange and camo = fabulous!

I happen to love the colors purple and olive together. Hence it was a no-brainer when I found this cashmere flowered Equipment sweater on sale earlier this year; of course I would wear it first with these joggers and my purple cardigan, right? In any case, I think this ensemble worked out very well. Joggers are probably on the way out but I love them for a dressy pants look. They also make any heel look smashing.
As I said in my post on Friday, I am becoming a fan of gray and its many shades and fabrications. I loved how this outfit came together. In truth, until this year I’d been relying on a series of classic charcoal gray tapered trousers to represent “gray” in my closet. This year, I consigned those classics and found these Topshop joggers – so much more fun and interesting to style. Our generation grew up hearing about the “classics” that every woman should have in her wardrobe. Well, I say forget that notion and have fun with your clothes. You only live once!

One way to cut through the boredom is to throw on a duster coat. This one is a dark tweedy one with many different red colors woven in. I told you the other day about my obsession with long sweaters? Well, welcome to my other obsession – long unlined duster coats. They make any outfit an OUTFIT in my opinion and they go so well with short or long skirts, wide or skinny pants. Try one out if you haven’t already.

Every retailer seems to call this color something different: burgundy! wine! oxblood! I’m just glad that, in the final analysis, they all seems to be the same. I love this little top from Banana Republic because it is not too boxy and even flares a little bit at the hem. And couldn’t I just wear these joggers every day? The combo of burgundy and plaid makes me instantly happy. Check out the darling burgundy-wine-oxblood we’ve pulled together below!
