Some days I wonder where the color in my wardrobe has gone. I can’t help that I love classic black mixed with everything, as well as navy and shades of olive.  But it is uplifting to dress in red and white as you see here.  There is nothing, in my opinion, better than a true, clear red and these pants qualify.  They will be keepers in my summer retirement wardrobe!

Debate the Trend: Joggers

joggers | Two Take on Style

1 / 2 / 3

As a part of the trend towards “athletic wear as street style”, joggers — also known as track pants or, let’s face it, sweatpants — have definitely become fashionable for all settings, except maybe funerals and weddings! It was probably inevitable once we all began to wear skinny pants and jeans. Today you can find joggers in every fabrication from French terry to leather and you’ll see them worn with everything from high heels and booties to Birkenstocks. What do we think of this trend?

Jeanne says: I bought faux leather joggers in the Fall of 2013 and I’ve never looked back. I also bought a few pairs this summer and enjoyed wearing them with sandals and a summer top. But I understand that this is a borderline trend for someone in my age group and I must think carefully about how and when I wear my joggers. I CAN wear them to work but not when I’m having a meeting with outsiders; I can wear them out on a Saturday night, but not to church on Sunday morning.

If you try joggers out, watch out for a look that is simply too baggy or has ill-placed pockets….you may also want to tuck the waist drawstring inside the pants like I do.

Kate says: This is another trend that I find adorable but doesn’t work on my body. The cut of joggers, with a pleated waist and pockets right on the hips, just don’t flatter my hips! I even bought a pair of sweatpants that are cut like joggers so I can enjoy this trend in the comfort of my own home.

I think the trick to making joggers work in a real woman’s wardrobe is to pair them with something dressy or structured. So either heels, a blazer or crisp white shirt can take joggers from frumpy loungewear to a fashion statement.

Here are some joggers to try:

Jeanne’s Five Must Haves for Summer

The truth is that it is only the 11th of June — not even summer yet — and the summer clothes sales are almost over. At my place of work, attire for summer is pretty casual most of the time so I’m thinking about warm weather separates, sandals, and cover ups for cool Northern California evenings. Here are my five must-haves for the next few months.

  • Gold sandals – they are everywhere and they are really cute.  My favorites are from Banana Republic. These beauties can be worn with casual day wear but can also add a little shine in the evening.

  •  Track pants – I mean track pants worn for style.  I’ve seen many on sale and I love these with flat sandals and open-toed booties.  They are a great alternative to skinny ankle pants or jeans.  Here are two examples I love:

  • One or two polished summer tops – I’ve been looking for short-sleeved or sleeveless tops that make a skirt or pants really look like an outfit.  I’m eyeing a few from Banana Republic and Nordstrom.  What do you think of these?

  • A jumpsuit – Look, there is no way I can wear rompers or those cute little city shorts and most summer dresses are just too short.  So I’m going to buy a jumpsuit – my way to catch a current trend without looking silly for my age.

  • A Choker Necklace – I still love my statement necklaces, but chokers are coming on strong!

I can’t wait to get started on my summer shopping!  How about you?
