Today I am wearing the last of my cold weather clothes – from now on spring/summer apparel only!  But I wanted to share this outfit because I love every item I am wearing, especially this Asos blue leather jacket.  This ensemble is the perfect combination of casual but work-acceptable pieces; I find it’s hard to strike that perfect balance but, when I do, I am truly a happy fashionista.

One more thing: I have a few of these turtleneck sleeveless tunics and I find I can extend their wear into spring by combining them with a simple tee or simply wearing them as is… just a thought!

Here I was looking to create a black background for my yellow shoes and neon neck adornment.  I have always been fond of this short sleeved cashmere turtleneck – a perfect solution for transitional weather in California.  I purchased these black culottes just before the culotte “craze” hit – they are a wonderful alternative to another black midi skirt, don’t you think?  And everything I am wearing is designed to highlight my pair of neon necklaces from J. Crew.  Pulling together disparate pieces from my closet gives me the most pleasure!

I feel a bit like I’m riding off to the hunt in this ensemble; I’m sure it is because I’ve opted for black knee high boots with my black culottes.  I love midi culottes but in the winter I have challenges finding the right footwear look.  Ankle boots – meh, heels – it depends on the heel, flats – never going to happen.

Aside from this dilemma, I love a voluminous black bottom half with an interesting fitted top and this Gaultier vintage top fits the bill.  I have always loved Gaultier’s tops and matching skirts and I’ve found a few on deep sale.

Oh, I so love forest green or spruce or whatever else you may want to call it!  I started my love affair with this color when I bought forest green suede heels last year at Madewell.  This year it was these lace pants and the turtleneck tunic.

By the way, these turtleneck tunics are great ensemble-building items. I’ve worn them alone or with short sleeved tees, lighter turtlenecks or blouses with the collar popped (as I did here). Its a trend, I know, but I’m going to wear these sleeveless tunics until the trend dies!

What Jeanne Wore: Faux Leather Skirt and Animal Print Shoes

Sometimes the clean line of a one-color ensemble as you see here is just the ticket. However I couldn’t just leave it there; I was compelled to add this lace-y belt from ASOS.

I haven’t told you about my belt collection – organized by width and color.  One can only acquire a belt collection over many years I think.  And if I were collecting today – well, I wouldn’t be collecting today because interesting leather belts have gotten way too expensive.  The belt I’m wearing today is faux of course, but I think it makes the outfit sing.

I adore turtlenecks and I am a sucker for them in all kinds of fabrics.  So you can imagine how difficult this winter has been for me – there are SO many great turtleneck sweaters around! However, I live in Northern California and, hence, there are a limited number of days when turtleneck sweaters make sense.  BUT I wear them anyway.

I’m also increasingly fond of simple ensembles and this outfit fits the bill.  It is ironic because I have so many beautiful scarves (saving up for a scarf drought?) but most times a scarf feels like too much fuss!

Welcome to another of Jeanne’s current obsessions: sleeveless turtleneck tunics! Actually any cozy turtlenecks will do, but this particular style is perfect and very versatile.  Wear it as a sleeveless tunic in between seasons or wear it with a crisp shirt or another turtleneck in cooler weather.  I even love these tunics with simple tees underneath.  They work with leggings, jeans and even sleek dressy pants.  There should be plenty of these on sale after the Christmas rush so keep your eyes open.  I think you’ll learn to love them too!

I adore this coordinated set. It reminds me of the Seventies, although I never wore anything that looked like this.  But the wide-leg cropped pants are definitely on trend today as is the longer vest, right?

What happened to matching tops and bottoms?  Coordinated suits?  They were back on the runways this year and I hope they trickle down to the masses.  Finally my vintage enamel flower brooch was perfect for this outfit.

To tell you the truth, I’ve put away the statement necklaces altogether and I’m pulling out all my vintage brooches.  Somehow they look perfect on this season’s ensembles!
